Mrs. Crawford

Hello and welcome!  My name is Karen Crawford. As one of the school counselors at Cartersville Primary school, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment to all students so they can thrive and succeed in all areas of their lives.  I have been working in education since 1998.  I began my career as a middle school science teacher and decided education would be where I could truly make a positive difference in the lives of others.  Eventually, my talents and passions led me to a career in school counseling. I have been a school counselor for over 20 years, and I really enjoy the positive rewards that come from seeing students succeed.  As a school counselor, I am in a unique position to help students overcome barriers to learning and reach their best potential.  I realize every child is special and unique, and they have their own special gifts and strengths. I believe ALL children can succeed! 

I have lived in the Cartersville area for about 16 years with my husband, Joe, and my daughter, Anna Kate.  I enjoy spending time with my family at home, watching my daugher's volleybal games, horseback riding, and training our family dogs.  I currently have a registered therapy dog that I bring to CPS with me twice a week!  

I feel blessed to be a part of the Cartersville city school system!  Cartersville city school system has always had an outstanding reputation in my community.  My family, friends, and neighbors have always spoken highly about Cartersville City Schools.   Our daughter will be attending CMS this year as a seventh grader, and we are excited about this next venture for her.  I have great confidence that she will have another great year in the Cartersville City school system.  

As a school counselor, I help students in many different areas, including: academic achievement, personal/social-emotional development, and career development. Students at Cartersville Primary will receive counseling services through classroom lessons, small group counseling lessons which target student needs (social skills, friendship, family changes, etc.), and individual counseling.  I provide assistance in the development of positive character traits, teach effective goal-setting and problem-solving, encourage and teach appropriate social/emotional behaviors, and help students utilize their skills and strengths to help them be successful in school and in life!  Overall, my mission is to provide compassionate and professional support to help all students navigate life's challenges and achieve their personal and academic goals.
