Enrichment is a form of differentiation in education where students are encouraged to look deeper at concepts or try different approaches in order to foster a high level of learning. Enrichment activities are often based on student interest and, therefore, are excellent methods to encourage students to follow their passions, discover new interests, and enhance their current skill level.
Activity 1
Syllables
Say a word to the student and have the student clap the word into syllables (or parts).
basket - bas ket
maybe - may be
Activity 2
Blending
Encourage students to blend letters to read simple words.
If your student is able to write a complete sentence, encourage them to write a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Don't forget to use capital letters and punctuation in your sentences.
Activity 4
Counting
Once your child can recognize and write numbers 0-20, encourage them to go higher. They can practice reading number words associated with each number.
Activity 5
Oral Counting
If your child can count to 100, encourage them to count even higher. They can also practice counting by 10s and 5s.
Activity 6
Add and subtract within 5
If your student can complete math facts to five easily and quickly, ask them to complete facts to 10. Encourage them to recognize patterns such as doubles facts, plus one, and minus one.
Activity 7
One-to-One Correspondence
Encourage your student to count out high numbers of objects. They can even group them by 10s or 5s.
