Mr. Michael D. Elzey

Mr. Michael D. Elzey is in his fourteenth year at Cartersville Middle School where he conducts the Symphonic/Concert Bands, Wind Ensemble, Beginning Band, Marching Band, "Category 5" Pep Band, Chamber Ensembles and Jazz Ensemble.  Prior to being promoted to the Head Band Director, Mr. Elzey served as the Assistant Director of the CMS Bands and CHS Bands.

Mr. Elzey holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and a Masters Degree in Instrumental Conducting and Music Education, both from Reinhardt UniversityWhile at Reinhardt, Mr. Elzey performed in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet.  Mr. Elzey also maintained a consistent schedule of working with numerous middle and high school band programs across north Georgia, including Cartersville High School.  Mr. Elzey is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Music Education from Liberty University.

In addition to his collegiate performance resume, Mr. Elzey has also performed with numerous other ensembles including the Tara Winds Concert Band (Atlanta, GA), the Etowah Jazz Society (Cartersville, GA), the Northwest Georgia Winds (Rome, GA), and the United States Air National Guard 572nd Band of the South.  Mr. Elzey is also a member of the "Saluting America's Band Directors" Marching Band that performed in the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Bands under Mr. Elzey's direction have received consistent superior ratings at state and regional evaluations for concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble and chamber ensembles.  His students have enjoyed the privilege of performing across the southeast in cities such as Atlanta, Chattanooga, Nashville, Pigeon Forge and Orlando.  The CMS Symphonic Band was selected to serve as guest performers at the 2014 Reinhardt University Middle School Honor Band.  Former students of Mr. Elzey have gone on to perform in several collegiate band programs across the southeast, including the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Valdosta State University, Jacksonville State University, Kennesaw State University, Purdue University, University of Tennessee and the University of West Georgia.

Mr. Elzey's professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the Pi Kappa Lamda National Music Honor Society and the Alpha Chi National Honor Society.  Mr. Elzey serves his profession as a member of the GMEA State Music Selection Committee for Large Group Performance Evaluations and is in his second term as the Chairman of GMEA District VII.
