Ms. Kaitlyn Thornton

This is my third year at CMS, and I love my Cartersville family! Last year, in addition to teaching my theatre arts classes, I had the privilege of co-founding the Cartersville Musical Theatre Program here at CMS. We experienced a very successful season last year, and we are excited to see this program continue to grow and improve while providing more performance opportunities for our students this year.

I was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, and I was fortunate in that there were many theatrical opportunities in my home-town. I performed in community theatres and participated in my middle school and high school theatre programs as well; studying under the direction of Steve Jones at McEachern High School. In addition to performing in both musicals and straight plays throughout my academic career, I have participated in theater workshops with Walt Disney World as well as the Globe Theater in London. I continue to perform in community theaters throughout the Metro-Atlanta area! Some favorite roles include: Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Maria (Sound of Music,) Marian (The Music Man,) Nancy (Oliver,) and Adelaide (Guys and Dolls.)

I spent part of 2017 studying medieval and renaissance literature at Oxford University. This immersive program placed a heavy emphasis on Shakespeare studies, and in addition to my experience with the Globe, I attended a lecture with the former Governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Sir Jonathan Bate. This experience stoked my, already profound, love of Shakespeare and helped me to gain a deeper understanding of early modern theater.

I am eager to share the wealth of my theatrical knowledge with you, my students. Together, we will grow, both on and off "the boards."

Go Canes!
