Ms. Kaitlyn Thornton

This is my first year teaching in Cartersville, and I am so excited to be a Cane! Last year, I taught 7th Grade ELA and Social Studies at Mason Creek Middle School in Douglas County. I am a third-generation educator. My grandmother was a teacher, my mother was a teacher, and my brother and I have both decided to follow them into the teaching profession. I was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, and I attended McEachern High School.

I am thrilled at the prospect of growing a theater program here at Cartersville Middle. I have been a performer for as long as I can remember. At a young age, I took on the role of "Zuzu" in "It's a Wonderful Life," and from then on, theater was in my blood. In addition to performing in both musicals and straight plays throughout my academic career, I have participated in theater workshops with Walt Disney World as well as the Globe Theater in London. I continue to perform in community theaters throughout the Metro-Atlanta area! Some favorite roles include: Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Maria (Sound of Music,) Marian (The Music Man,) Nancy (Oliver,) and Adelaide (Guys and Dolls.)

I spent part of 2017 studying medieval and renaissance literature at Oxford University. This immersive program placed a heavy emphasis on Shakespeare studies, and in addition to my experience with the Globe, I attended a lecture with the former Governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Sir Jonathan Bate. This experience stoked my, already profound, love of Shakespeare and helped me to gain a deeper understanding of early modern theater.

I am eager to share the wealth of my theatrical knowledge with you, my students. Together, we will grow, both on and off "the boards."

Go Canes!
