Sean Workman
Sean Workman was appointed as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Percussion at Cartersville High School in 2024. His duties include co-directing the Concert and Symphonic Bands, directing percussion ensembles, and co-directing chamber groups. Prior to his appointment at CHS, Mr. Workman worked as the Director of Bands/Choirs at Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville, FL. Before this, he worked as a university professor at Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL) and Warner University (Lake Wales, FL). As a professor, he taught drumline, studio lessons, band, African drum and dance ensemble, music education courses, and ethnomusicology courses. He has also served as the Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Percussion at Warner Robins High School (Warner Robins, GA) and Thomson-McDuffie Middle School (Thomson, GA). Mr. Workman has also worked as a percussion instructor at Winter Haven High School (FL), University High School (WV), Lowndes High School, Valdosta High School, Veterans High School, and Georgia Military College Prep School.
Mr. Workman earned his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance from Valdosta State University. While at VSU, he served as the graduate assistant for both the athletic bands and percussion studio. His duties included instruction, arranging, and logistics for the Blazin' Brigade marching band, as well as coaching the percussion ensemble, teaching studio lessons, and performing in various ensembles. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Georgia College and State University. His performance experience includes the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Wellston Winds, Saoco Percussion, Nautilus Percussion, Big Band, jazz combo, percussion ensemble, African drum and dance, taiko, steel band, and solo performance. Performances of note include accompanying the Canadian Brass, accompanying Carmen Bradford (of the Count Basie Band), mass steel band at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and a jazz combo residency in China.
Mr. Workman's professional associations include GMEA, FMEA, NAfME, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Christian Educators Association International, and the Percussive Arts Society. He is also active as a member and musician in his church. Mr. Workman loves the outdoors, whether hiking, kayaking, or camping. He also has two lovely cats, Rosie and Pippin.
