Statement Regarding Soft Lockdowns on 9/6/24:

A little before 10 a.m. Cartersville Middle School received an anonymous phone call conveying a potential threat from a source outside the school. Law enforcement was contacted immediately, and the school went into soft lockdown procedures. Out of an abundance of caution, all Cartersville City schools went into soft lockdown as well. At no time was anyone in any danger and the situation remained calm and in control. Law enforcement officers cleared the school and released the soft lockdown procedure. We appreciate the rapid response and support from our local law enforcement.

The soft lockdown is lifted at all CCS schools. We would like to thank law enforcement for quickly responding. To reiterate, there was no danger present to anyone at any time. 

Second Message Regarding Soft Lockdowns on 9/6/24:

CCS schools are still under soft lockdown. Law enforcement is present at CMS. Everyone is safe and the situation is under control. The lockdown arose from a call conveying a potential external threat. At no time was anyone in any danger.

Out of an abundance of caution following a phone call to Cartersville Middle School, all CCS schools are under a soft lockdown. Law enforcement is present at CMS. We will inform you when the lockdown is lifted. 

Records Elimination

In accordance with 34 CFR 300.573, the Cartersville City School Board of Education will be destroying the Special Education Records of students born in/or before 2001. All records prior to this year have already been destroyed by Federal guidelines. Anyone interested in obtaining his or her records should notify the Special Education Department in writing by July 30, 2024. These records will be destroyed on January 31, 2025.
