CMS & CCS Teacher of the Year

Mr. Chris McSwain is the Teacher of the Year for Cartersville Middle School.  Mr. McSwain is finishing up his thirteenth year in middle grades education.  He spent the first decade of his career teaching eighth grade math at Woodland Middle School and he is finishing his third-year teaching sixth grade math at Cartersville Middle.  Chris received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Kennesaw State University.  A few years ago, he completed his Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Berry College.  Chris chose to be a teacher while in college, after having a life changing experience with the Lord.  He discovered an unknown passion for helping kids and teaching math.  Mr. MacKenzie says, “He is the epitome of how CMS should be represented.  He is a benchmark teacher and a well-respected coach.  He’s also a wonderful family man with three beautiful children. However, this does not stop him from running a few miles with students after school 2-3 days a week. His positive disposition and winning smile are traits that make Chris special.”
