CHS Named AP Honor School

Cartersville High School earned a spot on the Georgia Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools list. Using the results of the 2022 AP courses and exams, the Georgia Department of Education recently honored eligible schools.

Principal Shelley Tierce said, “The culture at Cartersville High School facilitates success in that our students are provided a strong foundation of support while also being inspired and challenged to reach their highest potential. The evidence of this prevalent aspect of CHS can be seen especially in the designation of AP School of Distinction, denoting that a minimum of 20% of our total student population took AP exams and at least 50% of all AP exams earned a score of 3 or higher. Our students and staff work together to create an environment where achievement, high expectations, and accountability are commonplace.”

Cartersville High School received recognition in the following categories: AP STEM School and AP School of Distinction.

A deeper look into the data revealed other notable results, including a 30 percent increase in Black and Hispanic students who completed AP exams. Floyd Braid, director of strategic initiatives and school improvement, said, “Providing access and opportunity for all our learners to build skills and confidence continues to be at the forefront of our work.”
