Car Seat Safety
Please be aware that GA Law requires children under 8 years of age to be properly restrained while riding in a car. We understand our drop off and pick up procedures can make this more difficult and we appreciate you working with us. In reality, our facilities were never designed to sustain the amount of traffic we receive. If your particular situation makes it impossible for you to locate your pre-K student’s child safety seat on the passenger side of the vehicle and/or prohibits your child from exiting the car on that side, we ask that you wait until the end of car rider drop off to pick up your child. This will allow you to exit your car safely to assist your child without holding up the other vehicles (2:25 pm). As a reminder:
· Children under 8 years old must ride in an approved safety seat or booster that is suited for their height and weight.
· Children 8 years old and under must ride in the back seat. If the back seat is occupied by other passengers your child may ride in the front seat, provided he or she is secured in a booster or child safety seat.
· For full details, please refer to the car seat’s manufacturer or the following websites: http://www.gahighwaysafety.org/campaigns/child-passenger-safety/ or https://dph.georgia.gov/sites/dph.georgia.gov/files/related_files/site_page/GA%20CPS%20Law%20Enforcement%20Card.pdf
In the past, law enforcement has ticketed and detained parents or guardians who fail to transport students in accordance with the law during morning drop off and pick up times. For the safety of all involved, please be careful.
