Is my child ready for pre-k?

As parents, we want to make sure our child is prepared for school when August rolls around.  It is no different with students entering Kids and Company Pre-K.  At Kids and Company, we provide developmentally appropriate instructional activities guided by the Georgia Early Learning and Developmental Standards.  We also have benchmark assessments throughout the year to check our students’ progress.  We want to ensure that we have done everything we can to help them transition successfully into kindergarten -- socially, emotionally, and academically.

One of the ways you can help is by preparing your child to have a certain level of independence before the start of school.  These skills include:

Being fully potty trained:

  • The ability to tell an adult they need to potty
  • Pulling clothing down and up without assistance
  • Wiping themselves
  • Washing and drying their hands

Other independence skills:

  • Buckling and unbuckling their car seat on their own (This allows for a smooth flow of traffic during our drop off and pick up times.)
  • Responding to adults when spoken to
  • Following simple one and two step directions

While your child may not completely master all the skills listed above, we are confident that they will be on their way if you begin helping your child with them now.
