Mr. David Matherne
Without my Lord, I am nothing. Without my family, I am incomplete. My wife, son, and daughter are an eternal spring of joy to me.
As for education:
My classroom is known as the Mathernity Ward...where great ideas are born. If intellectual currency can be spent or wasted, I want my students to invest in ideas that can change their world. So, I challenge students to solve problems, to allow the literature or their writing to help connect ideas. These ideas form a constellation of understanding of the human condition. That is why we read. And write. And perform. In sum, I attempt to get my students to see the world, and their world, from different sets of eyes--their own as well as others.
Before coming to CHS in 1989, I went to school, spent a lot of time in books, in classrooms, and in pure puzzlement. However, my degrees from Berry, and Jax State, and U.G.A. merely represent what I want students to get out of my class: possibility.
I ♥ teaching sophomores. I ♥ teaching at Cartersville High School. I ♥ coaching Cross Country. But mostly, I love the Lord.
