Mrs. Leah Hobgood
This year will be my 30th year as an educator. After graduating from Jacksonville State University in 1988, I started my career as a 4th grade teacher at Taylorsville Elementary School. The following year, I taught Adult Literacy/GED classes at North Metro Technical College (now known as Chattahoochee Tech). In 1990, I accepted a teaching position at the brand new Cartersville Elementary School. I taught 3rd grade there for three years and then worked as a Title 1 reading and math teacher for three years while at the same time pursuing my Masters Degree in Counseling at The University of West Georgia. Following the completion of my M.Ed. in School Counseling, I worked as a guidance counselor for 2nd and 3rd grade at CPS and CES for four years. In 1999, I decided to go back to school and add on the Gifted Education endorsement to my certificate. I accepted my current position at CPS as one of the gifted education teachers in 2000. I love my job and feel blessed to work in such a positive environment where I am surrounded by a wonderful group of co-workers, administrators, students, and parents.
While I am not a product of the Cartersville City School System, my husband Jimmy is a 1980 graduate of CHS, as well as both of my children - Sam (class of 2009) and Chloe (class of 2011).
Sam and Chloe are both graduates of Georgia College and State University (GCSU). Sam (2013) with a degree in Exercise Science, and Chloe (2015) with a degree in Mass Communications.
