Early in the morning hours on Wednesday, January 15, Cartersville Police Department received a report of a car break-in involving a stolen handgun. The ensuing police investigation led to the arrest of a Cartersville High School student. It was also determined during the police investigation that the stolen gun was hidden on the campus of Cartersville High School. After receiving the information, school officials immediately located the stolen item along with a second handgun. Based on evidence from the investigation, at no time did any other students access or have knowledge of the hidden items. Lockdown procedures were not initiated because there was no threat present and the items were retrieved within minutes. Cartersville Police Department completed the investigation this afternoon, allowing us to inform our families within the school day. We appreciate the support and partnership of Cartersville Police Department in completing a swift and thorough investigation to ensure the safety of our CHS students and staff.
