CARTERSVILLE, Ga., July 15, 2025 - The Cartersville City School Board announces its intention to maintain the current millage rate of 14.5 for 2025, which is an increase of 0.655 mills over the rollback rate.
Superintendent Dr. Marc Feuerbach said, “In designing an appropriate budget and recommending the subsequent millage rate, we endeavored to draw upon our long history of fiscal responsibility while also maintaining the ability to operate with effectiveness toward our mission. The majority of the revenue from the 4.73% increase will be used to meet the rising costs of benefits and allocating funds for annual step increases.”
Since FY2023, the school district’s portion of health insurance has increased from $945 to $1,885 per month, per employee. The district’s portion of the Teacher Retirement System has also increased.
Feuerbach continued, “The remaining portion of the increase is allocated for rising costs, curriculum materials, and new staffing positions.”
The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $325,000 is approximately $85.15 and the proposed tax increase for non‐homestead property with a fair market value of $375,000 is approximately $98.25.
Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the county. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicate there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.
The Cartersville City School Board will hold three public hearings on this matter at the Board Room of the City of Cartersville Board of Education at 15 Nelson Street on Wednesday, July 30 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursday, August 7 at 5:30 p.m.
Feuerbach said, “Providing a robust education is strongly linked to a community’s ability to thrive. We appreciate the support we receive in building relevant, essential educational opportunities for our students. Additionally, the response and feedback given during our budget survey earlier this year was vital in guiding our priorities.”
In accordance with 34 CFR 300.573, the Cartersville City School Board of Education will be destroying the Special Education Records of students born in/or before 2003. All records prior to this year have already been destroyed by Federal guidelines. Anyone interested in obtaining his or her records should notify the Special Education Department in writing by July 30, 2025. These records will be destroyed on January 31, 2026.
