• Transportation Funding and Operating Costs

    Transportation graph

As the data above indicates, the State provides less than 13% of the funds necessary transport our students. The balance of this expense rests on the burden of our local citizens through taxes. With the continued growth of our student population currently at 4,537 students, demand for ridership, which is now at 89% of our students, near future developments within the city, and increasing transportation costs, it is necessary for the district to make changes regarding start/stop times and rider eligibility. The district has been providing transportation beyond what the State allows as a privilege, which cannot be sustained. The district does not transport students to and from school who are not city residents.
